About

Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.

Who Are Lutherans?

LUTHERANS ARE PROTESTANTS

Lutherans are Christians. Lutherans are the first Protestants. Protestants (literally “insistent” ones) are those who insist that Christ alone rules His church through or by means of Scripture alone; Christ saves us by grace alone through faith alone.
But we are not radical Christians or persons who advocate a thoroughly or completely different root (hence radical) or basis of faith. We don’t judge Scripture by our personal opinions or private feelings because we believe that every word of the Bible is given by the Holy Spirit for our salvation. We believe that everything that God tells us in Scripture is the truth to be trusted completely – including those loving mysteries of God, such as the Sacraments, which are beyond human comprehension.

LUTHERANS ARE CATHOLIC

In fact, we are among the oldest kind of catholic. We honor the ancient fathers of the Christian Church. We still believe and confess the ancient creeds of the Christian Church. We rejoice in our Baptism. We find comfort in Confession and Absolution. We find strength in the Holy Supper of our Lord. We hold that our Lord Jesus Christ Himself comes to us with grace and saving power.

We still worship with the Christian Church’s ancient liturgies. We are free to use the whole Christian Church’s heritage of hymns and tradition with which Christians have exalted their Savior for these two thousand years.

We are catholic but we are not Roman Catholic. We reject all additions to the teachings of Scripture as it was understood by the early Christian Church. Most important, we deny that anything we could do, give, endure, or become could ever earn or deserve God’s love. On the contrary, we depend completely on what Christ alone has done, and given, and suffered in our place, knowing that God does not save us because we are not good but because Jesus has been good enough for the entire world.

LUTHERANS ARE EVANGELICALS

Meaning we are people of the Gospel or the Good News!

Lutheran Christians are sinners who trust Jesus Christ. We are judged on His obedience not ours. Everything God’s Law requires of us, Jesus has done. Every punishment our sins deserved, Jesus has already taken. Because of what Christ Jesus did and suffered, we declare that everyone who believes in Hi is found innocent by God the Father.

This Good News (Gospel) is all our hope and happiness, the center of our faith, the reason for our lives. For God has promised in His word that He will always forgive us and change us. He will always forgive us and care for us. He will always forgive us and finally bring us to Himself forever all by His great love for the sake of Jesus Christ, His Son, and our Lord.

Therefore every day until the return of our Lord,  Lutheran Christians exist to tell this Good News so that through it, God will give our fellow sinners faith to trust His call: “All is forgiven it is time to come home!”

Trinity Lutheran Church is a member of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod.
